Rockville City History and Homes for Sale.

Rockville, MD.  City History and Homes for Sale.

One of Washington, D.C.'s largest suburbs, the city of Rockville, Maryland is located just 12 miles northwest of the nation's capital and is in MontgomeryCounty, one of the most affluent counties in the nation.  With a population of about 62,000, Rockville is one of the state's largest cities.

Rich in Native American history dating back as early as 8000 BC, Rockville first began to revolutionize between 1717 and 1735, when its primary land patents were procured by Arthur Nelson, who began development in what is now the hub of Rockville.  Earlier names for the town included Owen's Ordinary and Hungerfords Tavern, among others, until 1776, when it was decreed that Frederick County would be divided into 3 smaller parts.
